Summer Camp Intern

The Front Porch is currently seeking internship support for our kids music Summer Camps in 2023!

If you’re creative, musical, and love working with children, our Sing! Strum! Play! Create! camp is the best place to spend your summertime. We’re looking for energetic high school and college age interns to share their love of all things music with our 4-8 year old campers. Interns assist camp teachers during music activities, lunch and quiet time, and free choice stations. Interns help supervise our campers as we walk to nearby parks and the Virginia Discovery Museum. Our camp runs weekly from June 19 to August 18, 2023 – sign up for weeks as available! Hours for our interns will be Monday thru Friday 10 am to 2 pm (20 hrs/wk). Camps are held at our downtown mall location, 221 E. Water St.

Strong candidates for our internship program are creative, musical, and have experience working with young children. Current First Aid and CPR training are a plus. Interns will be trained on expected protocols prior to working with us.

Interning at The Front Porch is an opportunity to earn a glowing recommendation for college or future job applications. Front Porch interns are mentored by our teaching artists and receive valuable experience in our vibrant music school. Interns will earn a free group class for every week they volunteer (to be redeemed in 2023), in addition to merchandise.

We hire professional teaching artists from a variety of musical backgrounds and genres. We love building long-term relationships with our students. We value our warm-hearted, friendly atmosphere, and our mission of connecting everyone through music.

Perks of teaching at The Front Porch:

  • We provide comprehensive administrative support. You be the artist; we’ll take care of the rest.
  • We provide a ton of teaching resources: full curriculums for group classes, libraries of chord charts, notated music, and pre-recorded instructional videos.
  • We schedule regular opportunities to engage with other teaching artists as well as teacher trainings and other professional development opportunities.
  • You can take any of our group classes for free!
  • You’re an employee, not a contractor.
  • Maintaining 25+ hours/week qualifies you for health/dental insurance.
  • Our school schedule mirrors that of the local public schools, so winter and spring breaks are built in.
  • We pay our teachers as professionals: $43-65/ hour wages.
