Office Assistant

The Front Porch is hiring!

 

The Front Porch is a non-profit community music school with over 550 students (kids and adults) and 30 teaching artists. We offer private lessons, group class sessions (varying from 4-15 weeks in length), and camps throughout the year. We are seeking a part-time Office Assistant to help support teaching artists and student’s day to day schedules.

This role is a wonderful position for candidates with an interest in arts and education sectors who have strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic environment. The Office Assistant will support the registration process, maintain student and teaching schedules, and track payments as necessary. The Office Assistant collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure our weekend classes run smoothly. While previous interest in music, the arts, or non-profit sector is a plus, any candidate with attention to detail, strong customer service skills and a willingness to learn could thrive in this role. Summary Of Position

Status: Part-Time Hourly (15-20 hours/week)

Start Date: Immediately 

Schedule: Mon – Thurs 3:30pm-7:30pm, Saturdays 9:30am-1:30pm *hours may vary depending on school scheduling needs

Pay scale: $18 – $20/hr, free group class tuition

Reports to: Music School Director

Works Closely With: Music School Director, Teaching staff, Enrollment Manager

 

Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Interact with the public, families, and students in a professional and welcoming manner
  • Answer phone calls, email schedule changes, and provide customer support

Registration/Administration

  • Resolve student schedule conflicts in a timely manner and closely communicate those to the Enrollment Manager
  • Allocate teaching studios according to instrument and space needs
  • Process instrument rental requests and returns
  • Schedule all make-up lessons
  • Ensure student information and files are current                                                                         

Tuition/Billing

  • Collect tuition and record transactions and adjustments

Other

  • Liaise between faculty and students / families in regards to the schedule
  • Opening and closing responsibilities
  • Ensure facilities are well maintained and classrooms are set for the day
  • Office supply organization, inventory, and ordering
  • Rental inventory

Qualifications

Essential

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and effectively prioritizes tasks to maximize workflow
  • Strong background in front-facing customer service and office management, such as professional experience managing a high volume of customers, upholding company policies and procedures, maintaining accurate records, and/or utilizing technology to optimize administrative procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Manages change and balances shifting priorities
  • Ability to create a culturally competent and inclusive environment
  • Motivated and can work independently as well as collaboratively across teams

Preferred

  • Experience in CRM software 
  • Experience in arts administration and/or school environment
  • Demonstrated love of music

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They will need to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. They will also need to exchange information accurately with families and recognize and identify different forms of acceptable payments, including cash, check, and credit card. At times, there is heavy lifting or moving of studio equipment and furniture.

Piano Teacher

The Front Porch is seeking a passionate and experienced Piano Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in piano performance and pedagogy, with the ability to teach students ages 5+ and with varying skill levels. This is an in person teaching position. We are ideally looking for someone on Mondays and Wednesdays with availability from 3pm – 7:30pm to start in late April.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging and effective piano lessons to students of all levels.
  • Develop individualized lesson plans to meet each student’s needs and goals.
  • Prepare students for showcases as needed.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Communicate with students and parents about progress and goals.
  • Stay updated on teaching techniques and music education trends.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in piano performance and music theory.
  • Prior experience teaching students ages 5+.
  • Degree in Music, Music Education, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach a variety of musical styles (classical, pop, etc.).
  • Reliable and punctual with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach private lessons and group classes.
  • Familiarity with Alfred, Faber, and Bastien curriculum.

Summer Camp Intern

The Front Porch is currently seeking internship support for our kids music Summer Camps in 2024!

Activities:

If you’re creative, musical, and love working with children, our Sing! Move! Play! Create! camp is the best place to spend your summertime. We’re looking for energetic high school and college age interns to share their love of all things music with our 4–7-year-old campers. Interns assist camp teachers during music activities, lunch and quiet time, and free choice stations. Interns help supervise our campers as we walk to nearby park. Our camp runs weekly from March 31st to April 4th and June 23rd to August 1st – sign up for weeks as available! Hours for our interns will be Monday thru Friday 8:30am -12:30pm or 10:30am – 2:30pm (20 hrs/wk). We are looking for two interns per camp week to work in four-hour shifts. Camps are held at our Downtown location and IX Art Park.

Experience:

Strong candidates for our internship program are creative, musical, and have experience working with young children. Current First Aid and CPR training are a plus. Interns will be trained on expected protocols prior to working with us.
