Office Assistant (Part-Time, Flexible Scheduling Available)

The Front Porch is hiring!
The Front Porch is a non-profit community music school serving over 600 students (kids and adults) and 30 teaching artists. We offer private lessons, group classes, and camps year-round. We are seeking 1–2 part-time Office Assistants to support the day-to-day operations of our busy music school.

These roles are ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and bring strong attention to detail. Office Assistants help ensure that lessons, classes, and workshops run smoothly by supporting students, families, and teaching artists in real time.

Position Details

  • Status: Part-Time Hourly
  • Start Date: Immediately
  • Pay: $18–$20/hour + free group class tuition
  • Reports to: Music School Director
  • Works closely with: Teaching Artists, Enrollment Manager

Scheduling & Availability

We are hiring 1–2 part-time Office Assistants to help cover a combination of weekday, evening, and weekend shifts.

Current coverage needs include:

  • Monday – Thursday (3:00–8:00pm), Friday (3:00–6:30pm)
  • Saturday (9:30am–2:00pm)

Candidates may be hired into a consistent schedule or a blended role depending on availability and interest. Applicants who are available for multiple shifts or interested in additional hours are strongly encouraged to apply.

Shared Responsibility: Staff will rotate coverage for Sunday workshops (approximately once per month during the school year, 3–5 hours).

Core Responsibilities

Front Desk & Customer Service

  • Welcome students, families, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Answer phones and respond to emails
  • Provide real-time support during lesson hours

Scheduling & Operations

  • Manage day-of schedule updates and basic conflict resolution
  • Schedule and track make-up lessons
  • Process cancellations and rescheduled lessons
  • Serve as a liaison between families and teaching artists

Program Support

  • Register new students and update CRM (standard enrollments)
  • Maintain accurate student records
  • Support attendance tracking and communication with faculty

Facilities & Daily Flow

  • Assist with opening/closing procedures as needed
  • Reset classrooms between lessons
  • Ensure studios are clean, organized, and ready for use
  • Ensure bathrooms are stocked with supplies

Instrument Rental Management

  • Maintain organization of instrument storage
  • Manage instrument rental log
  • Process and store contract agreements
  • Schedule rental pick-ups/drop offs
  • Transport instruments between locations as needed
  • Schedule instrument repairs

Weekend & Workshop Support

  • Support Saturday programming (lesson and class flow, transitions, troubleshooting)
  • Assist with Sunday workshops (monthly Sept–April): setup, check-in, support, and breakdown

Additional Support (Light Touch)

  • Log payments (no reconciliation required)
  • Track office and classroom supply needs

Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Customer service experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing needs
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment

Preferred

  • Experience with CRM or scheduling software
  • Background in arts, education, or nonprofit environments
  • Interest in music and community programming

Physical Demands

This role includes extended periods of sitting and computer use, as well as occasional standing, movement between rooms, and light lifting of classroom and music equipment.

Piano Teacher

The Front Porch is currently seeking applicants for a piano teacher for private lesson instruction for kids and some adults! Ideal candidates would have the following skills/qualifications:

– Experience working with children ages 5 and above (required)

– Familiarity with classical music

– Some familiarity with beginner piano curriculum (Alfred, Bastien, Faber, etc.)

– A flexible weekday schedule with availability Mon – Thurs from 3 pm – 7:30pm (required)

– At least one year teaching experience

Starting pay rate: $48/hr for private/semi-private lessons and $65/hr for group classes (3-6 students)
