Dear friends,

Together we are going to raise $100,000 before December 20, 2019, our biggest fundraising goal to date! I’m confident that we can meet this goal, because so many of you have told us, in word and in deed, that The Front Porch has made a difference in your lives. Plus, it’s entirely do-able. If each person who reads this letter gives at least $20, we will exceed our target!

We aren’t in start-up mode any more, folks. We are setting a bold goal this year because we are poised to deeply impact the community through music. We have done the work to get us to this place. We’ve hired new staff (love them!), written curriculum guides for core programs, and completely renovated our building, including a gorgeous outdoor patio. We’ve broadened our course offerings and increased our music outreach program. Our listening room concert series stuns audiences through diverse, world class performances. And we have big dreams for the future!

What exactly will your gift support? First, you should know that our earned income (tuition, concert tickets, concessions sales) pays teaching artists, performing artists, and program administrators. We rely on philanthropy for everything else, like keeping the lights on (literally!). Your gift also makes music education accessible to everyone. Your generosity allows us to provide excellent programs like Music Mentors, which sends professional musicians into Walker Elementary’s band program and the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center twice a week. We’ll also grow our Hometown Choir, uniting all children in Charlottesville in song. And we’ll deepen our partnerships with other amazing organizations in Charlottesville, supporting the great work of the African American Heritage Center, the Boys and Girls Club, the local school systems, Community Action Foster Families, and many others, so that we may reach our vision of meaningfully connecting everyone through music.

The research is conclusive: music improves our brains and our hearts. So much so, experts say that all children — indeed all people — should be studying and experiencing more music. In a world rife with distractions and reasons to disconnect, we all need more joy, connection, and creativity in our lives. Music does that for us, and like magic, makes us healthier and happier. It isn’t for the privileged few. It’s our birthright as human beings.

My personal plug: we are an organization that does a LOT with a little. Your donation, no matter the size, truly matters. Please donate today. Click HERE to support The Front  Porch.

Yours truly, Emily
