I grew up in a Chicago suburb where I was surrounded by music from day one. I studied both piano and flute throughout childhood, eventually joined the Chicago Youth Symphony, and went on to study flute performance in college and grad school (DM, Indiana University). I met my cellist husband when we were members of the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra. After a decade of orchestral life we took a leap of faith and moved to Virginia to do our own thing and to be closer to family. We play together as the duo Terra Voce, primarily performing concerts supported by the Virginia Commission for the Arts touring program. I’ve taught students of all ages and levels for many years and I have training in the Suzuki and KinderFlute methods. I draw on both approaches in my teaching of young children and love to swap ideas with my colleagues in FlutePlay, an international community of “little flute experts” who explore creativity in teaching.
