Description: This class introduces children to instrumental music with a small, lightweight flute called the Toot Flute. After learning sound production, children learn easy songs through listening, singing, copying and iconic notation. The book used in this class, WindStars 1–Sound before Sight, is designed specifically for the Toot flute and young learners. Children also learn basic music symbols and rhythmic concepts through games, fun activities and active movement.
Prerequisite: None – this class is for complete beginners.
What you will learn:
How to blow and direct air to produce a flute sound.
How to hold the Toot flute properly.
How to play easy three-note tunes.
How to express easy rhythms in a variety of ways.
What students will need: A Toot Flute and WindStars music book. ($40 total – both the flute and book are available for purchase from the instructor.)
