All classes will be held at our Dale Ave location (508 Dale Ave).
Description: This class is a continuation of Fiddle – Beginner I. Students will learn new tunes, a little harder than the first, and in new keys. Students will also learn new skills for playing with others, beginning with basic long-bow back-up, listening for chord changes, starting a tune with “taters” and ending them with “shave and a haircut.”
Prerequisites: Fiddle – Beginner I or equivalent, such as playing all the Twinkle Variations independently with steady rhythm
What students leave this class having learned:
Tunes: Cripple Creek, Cluck Old Hen, Two Dollar Bill (core curriculum; and any other tunes students/instructors select)
Technique: finger positioning for playing G natural and C natural
Group playing skills: How to kick-off and end a tune (Taters + shave and a hair cut), playing with back-up, taking “breaks,” long bow accompaniment for chord changes, playing with back-up, playing in the keys of A, D, and G
Special materials/information:
Functional fiddle
Kids need to be fitted to their fiddles – (link to shops that do this?)
Fiddles should have: bridge, strings, sound post, and all tuning pegs intact
Bow (with all the hair)
Resin
Shoulder rest
Tuner
Notebook and pencil
