The Pollocks started around a kitchen table and a bottle of brown liquor. Around 2008, we had more songs than sense and decided that we were just as entitled to glory and riches as anybody. It’s not a complicated process- you turn on the machines, plug in and give up your ghost. Then again, there’s the job, sickness, breakups, jealousy, hangovers, weather… So through thick and thinner, we keep cranking out the widgets- flushing money down the toilet and swan-diving into the madness of it all. We play shows. We reflect. The songs pile up…
Ragged Mountain String Band:
Ragged Mountain String Band plays traditional old-time music from Appalachia, suitable for dancing or listening.
Their songs have a modern day appeal and sensibility, pleasing to traditionalists, jam band fans, and regular folks, too.
Emily Kresky and Friends:
On a snowy winter afternoon in a sleepy Vermont town, I found myself tucked away in my dorm room, strumming my roommate’s acoustic guitar. I must have hid out in that little room for 24 hours, furiously practicing chords until I managed to squeeze out a song. It wasn’t long afterwards that I bought my own guitar. I traveled across the United States and Europe, playing songs I had scribbled on food receipts, pages ripped out of books, and in many filled journals. It has been my pleasure to share my music from street corners to pubs; from living rooms to listening rooms. Inspired by people I’ve met along the way, and drawing from the musical air of places I have lived and visited, my songs are stories with slivers of folk, rock, roots, blues, Americana, and swing.
Zuzu’s Hot Five:
High octane ’20s and ’30s music from Charlottesville, VA.
