Rev. Sparks + the Jubilee is a duo comprised of Jake Blount and Mason Via. Formed during a time of great change for Blount, Via and the world at large, Rev. Sparks is a project intended to demonstrate what young people can accomplish when they come together across difference and work toward a common goal; in this case, the goal is to have fun. Blount and Via, both vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, have become known in old-time music circles for their warmth, vigor and youthful energy. As Rev. Sparks + the Jubilee, the two pour their natural verve into exhilarating performances on banjo, fiddle, guitar and voice.
Jake Blount (Ithaca, NY) has performed and recorded with acclaimed fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves and The Moose Whisperers, a decorated and internationally-touring old-time band. He has also served as a performer and guest lecturer on old-time music at numerous colleges, museums and universities. Mason Via (Swannanoa, NC) grew up immersed in bluegrass and old-time music, and has accumulated numerous awards for performances in both genres. He performs solo and with several ensembles, including the bluegrass quintet Hot Trail Mix, the Mason Via Funk Band, and multiple duo projects. For this performance, they will be joined by Clarke Williams (Asheville, NC), a multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Jenny and the Hog Drovers, an internationally-touring old-time ensemble.
