Rolling Stone Country recently named Brooklyn based singer-songwriter/ violinist Phoebe Hunt one of their 10 New Country Artists You Need To Know. Her music has been praised by NPR, World Cafe, Bluegrass Situation, Relix and Folk Alley. Hunt recently appeared on Mountain Stage and eTown, and is currently on tour opening for Sierra Hull.
On the heels of the album release tour for Shanti’s Shadow, Hunt is sharing a message of healing through music, drawing on her experience working with SOLDIER SONGS AND VOICES, a non-profit program that unites war veterans in songwriting circles to use music for healing and transformation.
Hunt’s new album Shanti’s Shadow is the culmination of a five-year journey from her hometown of Austin, TX to Brooklyn, NY, and eventually to India to study with seventh-generation master violinist Kala Ramnath. The generative idea at the heart of Shanti’s Shadow lies in the double sense of its title — it refers, on the one hand, to the obverse of peace and tranquility, to the entangled ego at play in a world of knotty contradictions and selfish desires. It is also, in a literal sense, a reference to Phoebe Hunt the artist, to her music’s quest to transcend creative limitations and give flight to her innermost voice.
