Are you ready to learn the basics of Rhythm so you can play with your musician friends? Drumming is a universal language that is easy to learn, so much fun to play, and inherently versatile. Join Brian Festa, a percussionist with 25 years experience in classical, jazz, popular, world, and folk styles of music. In this interactive workshop (with special guest musicians), we will cover the basics of rhythm, and you will get to play the drum kit and common hand percussion instruments such as the Cajon, Conga’s, Djembe, and many more. Look forward to coming away with the tools and new understanding of how the drumkit and percussion can fit within your favorite style of music!

Brian Festa has been studying and performing for 25 years, and his rhythmic curiosity has taken him to every corner of the U.S. as well as the Netherlands, Croatia, Hungary, Turkey, and India. Since 2001, he has been teaching all ages on Drumkit, and a wide variety of world percussion instruments. In 2007, Brian opened a community teaching space in Asheville, North Carolina to implement a unique curriculum that he had designed over many years. In 2012, he settled in San Francisco to teach, perform, and collaborate with highly diverse world class musicians. After his tenure there, and multiple trips in Europe and India for continued world music study, he moved to Charlottesville to continue to teach, perform, and to co-create a Musician’s Residency in the surrounding countryside.
