Instructor: Sean Bracken
2pm – 2:45pm
Description: This introductory class is perfect for first time drummers! Students will be taught foundational skills in technique, learn a handful of simple drum patterns, work on how to set-up a kit to be playable for you, how to properly hold your sticks, some basic training exercises, fills, dynamics & volume control, and writing a drum beat!
Prerequisite: None! This class will be starting students from scratch. Folks with a little prior experience but with only a tune or two under their belt may join this class as well.
What Students will Leave this class having learned:
- Tunes: Fortunate Son by CCR, Billie Jean By Micheal Jackson, Another One Bites The Dust By Queen, & more!
- Technique: Various drum stick grips, striking techniques, foot technique, volume control, tempo control, & more!
- Group playing skills: How to play in time with others, how to listen for queues, how to manage volume in a group.
What students will need: Drumsticks, practice pad, stand, eagerness to learn! For the practice pads, really any level of pad will do. Here’s kind of the industry standard for beginners: https://www.amazon.com/Remo-RT-0008-00-Practice–Ambassador-Drumhead/dp/B0002E56H6. A stand would be needed for each pad as well – here’s one that would be perfect for beginners and is cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Tosnail-Snare-Drum-Stand-Updated/dp/B06XPYHJPM?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_6. They’ll need some sticks too – I have a ton that I can bring in for the classes, but they should have their own at home as well for practicing.
