Instrument Exploration for Kids 7-8yrs – Debby Norton
April 24 @ 5:15 pm - 6:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 5:15pm on Wednesday, repeating until May 29, 2019
Description: Has your child expressed an interest in music, but you’re not exactly sure where to start? Maybe they’ve taken Musikgarten classes and are ready for the next step? Students are exposed to the layered elements of music and improvisation. We work together to understand the importance of beat, and then layer harmonic elements on top of the beat. We use special xylophones that are notated to explore these elements. We also learn basic chords on the ukulele. This class is meant to open children to the idea that they can create music in the moment and improvise off the page. It’s meant to be an addition or building block for future musicianship, and an exercise in listening, which of course is fundamental to ensemble work. A different musical instrument is offered for exploration each week: recorders, an accordion, fiddle, dulcimer, banjo, mandolin, and guitar. Parents are encouraged to join in, but not required.
Prerequisite: No prior musical experience required.
