Expand Your Musical Bounds: An Improvisational Workshop for All Instruments
May 19 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$25
Create lilt, lift and drive in dance music with Jacqueline Schwab. If you’re interested in playing for dancing (particularly English country dancing, but any sort), come explore how to develop kinetic energy in your music making to play in a style that can inspire dancers to lilt, groove, or get down, depending on what is needed. Through rhythm and improv games, we will learn how rhythmic riffing can lead to melodic and harmonic ideas and a commanding musical voice. We will focus on English country dance tunes (both lyrical and driving), but all are welcome (all instruments, intermediate playing level or higher recommended).
Workshop leader: Jacqueline Schwab has long played for English dancing with the Bare Necessities ensemble, whose flowing, group improvisational style have influenced generations of dancers and musicians. They have recorded 18 dance CDs and have played for dances throughout the US, England, Canada and beyond. Jacqueline has also played for New England-style contra dancing, international folk and vintage dancing, and ballet and modern dance. Her signature playing infuses the soundtracks of Ken Burns’ Grammy-winning Civil War, Baseball, Lewis and Clark, Mark Twain, The War, and others. She is performing a solo concert I Lift My Lamp—Vintage Songs and Dances of Immigrant America at The Front Porch on Sunday, May 19, at 7 p.m.
Jacqueline Schwab will perform in concert later this evening from 7 – 9 PM at The Front Porch. More information and tickets HERE.
